As of 24 November 2025, RPBA is thrilled to announce that our status as an Approved Entity has been approved by the Queensland Dog Breeder Register! That means RPBA is recognised by Queensland authorities as an accreditation body for responsible dog breeders.
By maintaining governance standards, ethical codes, and record‑keeping frameworks, we enable our members to align with state‐requirements.
Under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and associated regulations, an approved entity in QLD is an organisation that has met specific criteria and has been formally prescribed under section 43W of the Act.
In plain terms:
Once recognised, breeders accredited via the approved entity may use the entity’s identifying number instead of registering individually.
For breeders:
For buyers and the public:
Being part of an approved entity like RPBA means you join a structured, transparent framework recognised by the Queensland government. Join RPBA today to secure accreditation, access support tools, and use your RPBA number as your official Supply Number in Queensland.
A Supply Number is the unique identifier that must appear on a dog’s microchip and all advertising when the dog is given away, sold or advertised.
Yes, provided your details have been added to the Queensland Dog Breeder Register by RPBA and you are an accredited breeder under our scheme.
No. Each state or territory sets its own criteria. Recognition by one state doesn’t automatically mean recognition in another. If you live in a state where RPBA currently doesn’t have government recognition, you’ll still get access to all other benefits of being a RPBA member. We are also working closely with other Australian states to expand and champion breeder recognition programs nationwide.
You must register directly with the state and obtain a Supply Number. Without this, you may not legally sell or advertise dogs bred after the regulation date.
No. The concept of government recognition and registration rules vary by state and territory. The Queensland rules apply under the Animal Management Act and correspondingly differ elsewhere.
You must notify RPBA within 7 days of changes (e.g., address, name) so we can update the register and comply with state requirements.
They have great resources for first time breeders like myself which made me feel a lot more comfortable knowing I have their ongoing support and guidance.
The discounts and specials they offer members saved me 10 times more than their membership fee. A no brainer. And the support from fellow RPBA breeders has been reassuring and welcoming too. Very happy!
RPBA has been excellent to deal with from start to finish. My application was processed within 24 hours and their breeder offerings are great.
I’ve already used some of their templates and the learning documents they provide also has made it easier for me to educate new families on health matters and ongoing care of the pups once they leave our home. Great to be part of a proactive and supportive group.
